Who's a snowflake now?
Sean Plunkett, founding editor of the new media outlet, The Platform, was interviewed on RNZ's highly regarded flagship programme "Mediawatch".
Mr Plunkett has made much about "cancel culture" and "de-platforming". On his website promoting The Platform, he outlines his mission statement thusly:
The Platform is for everyone; we’re not into cancelling or de-platforming or politically correct witch hunts... We aren’t always going to agree on everything, but we know having the debate and talking through differences is the way forward.
The voiced promo was even more explicit in defending free speech by pointing to supposed "cancel culture" in this country:
“If they don't like what you say, you're cancelled...”
Talking with Colin Peacock, Mr Plunket was vehement in insisting that his outlet was a staunch defender of free speech:
@ 15.30
“I don't want to make any political point except that democracy requires freedom of speech and for citizens to be unafraid to say what they think and to discuss difficult issues and to agree to disagree without being cancelled or derided.”
@ 20.06
“And I also love people disagreeing with me and the greatest thing that can happen in any conversation is someone changes you mind because it means you might've learned something.”
@ 20.57
“Well if you want to change that, the woke, and the people who don't agree with me, here is the challenge, if this is going to work, people who are listening to this interview, on Sunday morning on National Radio, and tune in for your take on the world, they gotta ring in, they gotta listen to The Platform as well and then, as our audience grows and we get more diversity the quality of the debate improves.”
Which is all well and good, except...
Mr Plunket appears to have de-platformed me from his Platform.
