Sadly Levi, it's already happening...

"Northlanders pulling out own teeth with pliers due to poor oral health"

"Some people are so desperate to relieve severe tooth pain they are using pliers to pull out their own teeth because they can't afford to go to the dentist - despite working full-time. Others said oral health is so bad it's putting lives at risk.

People in the small far north town of Kaikohe spoken to by The Hui said while cost is the biggest barrier, the problem is compounded by the fact the town hasn't had a dentist for 18 months. That's despite the town having a population of more than 4000."

Heaven help us, this is where we're heading under this rotten government.

Agree Brenda yet the country knew what this corrupt clown show would be like and still voted for them. Lets hope the penny has dropped and actually doing what is best for everyone will be the case next time.

The country at large did not know because the media did not expose the lies they told at the last election. The country at large still believes the country was in financial crisis and that austerity is required to get NZ back on an even keel.

Until the media start questioning and reporting facts and figures the vast majority of voters won’t change their minds - this is the biggest problem we have.

Think Trump reelection.

Agreed, Linley.

More could have been made of Nicola "Noboats" Willis's fiscal figures to finance her taxcuts. None of her alternative tax revenue stacked up. The media could have scrutinised it more in-depth.

Result? $19 billion splashed around like a drunken sailor and nothing to show for it.

But it had to be paid for so she borrowed like a teenager with their parent's credit card; sacked 9,000+ state employees, and scrapped 33 pay equity agreements. The lowest income-earners paid for Ms Willis' spending spree.

No wonder NZers are bailing and jumping the Ditch to Australia. I would.

Indeed, Mac. Our lives literally depend on it.

"Some and mirrors"

A valid description of what this government is doing to us, Brenda. And it will get much, much worse as we near Election Day. Expect more gaslighting; and, as you say, "smoke and mirrors". "Noboats" Willis has stuffed up and now they have to hide their mess.

Thanks, Frank. Spot on! These sorts of announcements are similar to the statement that they are spending the most money of health that has ever been spent! Of course they are, we have inflation and an aging population, and technology improves every day, and I guess we might still have a growing population, despite the fact that so many of our people are fleeing overseas, so those words are meaningless!

Yup. When these announcements are reported with minimal questioing and/or analysis, media simply become an extension of the Prime Minister's Deparment.

Which, I guess, is why Landlord Luxon released the announcement on a SUNDAY? Maximum coverage; minimal scrutiny.

Maybe media will have to start rostering their offices with an on-call political journo. Especially as we get closer to Election Day. (Which I still believe may be sooner than we expect.)

Our cartoonists cut through all the political bullshit to get to the essence of what's happening.

It may sound weird, but Sharon Murdoch, Jeff Bell, Chris Slane, Garrick Tremain, Emma Cook, Guy Body, et al*, are the REAL Fourth Estate.

* My appologies for those I've missed out.

👏😁 I wasn't sure what YOUR ⁉️ was, but MINE certainly was "is it new money or taken from somewhere else⁉️" - seems pretty obvious what the answer is given what they have said and done to date but I too despair of the "stenographic journalism" rife in Aotearoa media in most cases.

Yup. Obvious to us. Sadly, it took a while for media to get up to speed and ask that $164 million question. *sighs*

That should be the Number One question at the top of each journo's list. And then backed up with research. Not that I don't trust Tory politicians...

but...

well...

... I don't trust Tory politicians.

I must have missed that while I was sleeping Frank. Luxon has the oratory skill of a baboon on acid. He couldn’t stimulate engagement or innovative thought in a skunkworks funded by a reincarnated Croesus. Praise f**king be.
