It's putting in regulation to excuse what's already been happening for years. But in the scramble for good news to distract from all of the other disasters they have initiated of their own making and now proudly oversee.
It's got Luxon's hands all over this. Stanford looked embarrassed for the second time this week.
Luxon is the political equivalent of taking wet wipes to a sewerage geyser. Wet, ineffective and leaves a massive stinking mess for someone else to fix.
Exactly. I am sure that there are plenty of “tourists” who do this anyway. Or people from Visa Waiver countries who work under the table for NZ companies etc.
Citizens from Visa Waiver countries (other than six months for the UK), can come for three months. They must be able to prove their bonafides, ie: money or family to support them while here, and a return ticket, if challenged by Customs or Immigration.
It’s going to be pretty easy to forge documents to say you’re here as a digital nomad, and then overstay. Or make it tricky for Immigration to differentiate who really is, or isn’t, if they return multiple times.
Some very high risk countries belong to the Schengen and EU agreements.
I’m glad I don’t work in that environment anymore…
