The media's "honeymoon" with National's leader, Christopher Luxon, ended abruptly on 21 March when on Kerre McIvor's NewstalkZB show, he uttered these astonishing words:
How quickly Kiwi's forget just how ill bred and crass are these nouveau riche types. I do have a nagging fear that national will scrape in next year- and slam Aotearoa back into reverse gear.
Good to see you blogging again Frank! I had seen a couple of your reckons over on Twitter (repling to Te Taipo, maybe?), but I don't have an account there (nor any intention to start one), so couldn't say hi. Substack seems to have more potential for joined-up thinking, and hopefully they've sorted out pricacy issues enough to be able to tell bcc from cc nowadays.
The end of Luxon's media honeymoon may or may not be reflected in the political polls, which may or may not be indicative of next year's general election result. It all seems like smoke and mirrors at this point. It is clear that he would be a disaster as a PM though.
Yes, I'm a 100% fan of Te Taipo. His coverage of the occupation at Parliament was citizen journalism at its best ever. I can only think of one (or two?) professional journalists who gave it similar coverage.
You are correct; "The end of Luxon's media honeymoon may or may not be reflected in the political polls, which may or may not be indicative of next year's general election result". The two are distinctly different and there are other factors involved in sufficient numbers of voters switching to National.
If he becomes PM, my gamble (if the TAB would take the bet) is that it would be a one-term government - *UNLESS* they opted for another Leader. I'm thinking Erica Stanford, a woman with formidible talent. Luckily for the Left the Nats don't realise what they're missing by ignoring her for leadership. (Well, that's my 10 cents + gst worth of reckons, anyway.)

Indeed, Fred, I share that same disquiet. With ACT as a coalition partner, the brakes will be off and I fear it will be 1991 all over again...
Clear and concise Frank. Keep it coming.
Thanks, Mark!
As always, as time permits... *thumbs up*

Thank you for you kind words, Temp!
